I'm currently participating in
an ABC's for homeschooling challenge.
Since it falls on Tuesdays,
I am adding a technological slant to the challenge.
I hope you stay tuned and enjoy my entries.
Information has sped through our society at an astronomical rate. It is difficult to fathom how far the internet has come in terms of improvements. We have seen these last few decades as an opportunity to spread information to each other. It has been a means for me to teach my children more effectively.
What does this mean? It means that information has been obtained. It has been used in a specific way. Information has been stored. Information has been spread.
How has the information been spread? It has been spread through verbal means, pictures, text, and numbers.
Physically, information is been moved around electronically through the use of computations.
I am interested in Information Technology (IT) for several reasons. For one, it affects everyone. Second, it seems like an abstract notion that I felt needed defining. Third, I think some of my children might be a good fit for the IT field. I'm wanting to see about possible careers within that field.
Here's what I found in the form of IT websites:
Information Technology (IT) Careers, Jobs and Employment Information
IT Jobs, Engineering Jobs and Career Resources for IT
Dice: The Career Hub for Tech
I wanted an idea of the kinds of jobs and careers available in the IT field. I can see at least one of my kids going into the software engineering field. Another job in the field is to create the infrastructure for AT&T's internet service. Tech support, the people who are called when something fails to work, is another job. Another possibility is to be the in-house tech support within a hospital or a company.
My son is my personal tech support when I can't figure something out. I turn to him when we can't figure out how to get our computers to do something. Just the other day, my daughter's Net book stopped working. She went into a little panic, but my 15 year-old son came to the rescue and got it working again. I have full confidence in him to help us when we have these problems.
At the same time, I know that he doesn't know everything. That's why I would love for him to take some courses which could help him down the road when he needs to make a living.
Well, thanks for reading this entry. I hope I have provided some useful facts about information technology.
How about you, my readers? Did you know the definition of (IT) Information Technology? Do you fully appreciate the strides of the Information Age? I think it's awesome that we have the internet to share information. It has been a wonderful blessing to my family. I hope our family can someday make a living with the help of Information Technology.
I pray that God gives you all, my beloveds, His wisdom and peace.
This has been an entry for the Technology Tuesdays series.
I really admire people who are in the IT field because there is SO much to know! What a great field for you kids to go into because it should have good job security!
ReplyDeleteNaomi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting. I appreciate it.
Yes, I think there are jobs in this sector. I hope my kids take advantage of their hobbies enough to enter this wonderful field. It does look very promising.

What would we do without IT guys? I think that's a great field for a young person to go into! Most community colleges have great IT programs, and they can go into them as Running Start students, which is really NICE. You should look into that, if you have a local CC nearby and your son is really interested in it. Free college while getting high school credit AND an AA degree and career to boot! Can't beat that!
ReplyDeleteDawn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information. I'm hoping I can convince my son to look into the information. I think he's not sure what he wants to go into. I know that he has some really good experience at fixing our computers. He stuns me with what he can already do.
